Erosion
Without an effective gutter system, water can flow off your roof and wash away a bit of the soil. Over time, with each time it rains, more soil could be washed away, leading to a wearing down of the slope of your landscape. This, in turn, could lead to runoff water flowing back toward your building’s foundation.
Basement Flooding
Water that flows off of your roof and pools around your building could begin to seep into your basement if left unchecked. The ground near your foundation is likely to be more porous and more likely to allow rainwater to put pressure against your basement walls. Over time, this pressure can result in leaks in the basement walls, allowing water to enter and flood the basement. Gutters and downspouts are necessary to move rainwater from your roof away from your building and its foundation.
